"FILSTAR" is an industrial filter that uses unique water flow to filter in high accuracy without the need for replacement of elements.
Our company, Industria (Thailand) Co.,Ltd developed it.
In 1991, all of this began with a small parts-processing manufacturer launched by four craftsmen.
Since then, the environmentally conscious "FILSTAR" has become a hit product that has spread throughout the automotive industry and the rest of the world.
In 2014, we also established a local subsidiary in Thailand, where we are operating.
This time, I will introduce a secret story about the birth of that FILSTAR.
Industria Co., Ltd. was established as Takahashi Co., Ltd. in Iruma City in the western part of Saitama Prefecture.
My father was the founder of the company, and at that time he was engaged in the processing of parts for environmental testing machines for powerplants.
In parts processing, a large amount of fine shavings is generated at the time of metal cutting. The adhesion or removal must be cleaned and removed, and each time the water must be filtered.
Cleaning these filters causes many interruptions in a day. I had to clean the filter repeatedly daily.
In this context, we worked on the development of a steady filter.
The idea behind the prototype was to remove impurities through water flow instead of an element filtering that takes time to replace.
However, they were from workplaces that did not even have a basic knowledge of fluid dynamics, in spite of them being craftsmen. After repeated trial and error, and debating opinions, the filter was finally completed a year later. It was the prototype of the current "FILSTAR".
Since I started using FILSTAR, our work has become much more efficient due to having less of our attention needed to monitor the filters.
"If it was so high-performance, other factories would have a demand for it," was the product development plan that came into being.
However, FILSTAR was an in-house product created by a small-town factory with neither branding nor familiarity. We believed that it would be effective to have companies with strong brand recognition purchase our product.
Toyota Motor Company, the largest manufacturer in Japan at that time, is a top company that possesses the world's most advanced technology and expertise. If delivery was actually realized, its impact will be immeasurable. We relied on all connections to knock on the gates of Toyota. This was about 12 years ago.
Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we were able to take delivery tests. We challenged the examination repeatedly in Toyota's main factory. However, it was not easy to pass the test, and after half a year passed since I came to the Toyota factory, I finally received a notice of success.
Ultimately, however, we needed objective data. Without scientific verification reports, there will be no decision on purchasing.
We soon found a university professor who would look for an authority on fluid mechanics and accept joint development, and we decided to ask him for his help. This was the first opportunity for "FILSTAR" to gain academic backing.
The verification report took two years.
We continued to work tirelessly to negotiate with them, but we had no final decision.
At last, the first implementation test of the "FILSTAR" was allowed, and the test results seemed to be satisfactory for Toyota, and the introduction of the FILSTAR into all the lines was started.
