Mitsui Grinding Technology (Thailand) (hereinafter referred to as "MGT") is actively engaged in carbon neutral activities to reduce carbon dioxide consumption. The Mitsui Kinzoku Group of which our parent company Mitsui Mining and Smelting is a member of, has set a goal of 46% reduction in the carbon dioxide emissions of the entire group by 2030. In order to achieve that goal, we at MGT have created a "Carbon Neutrality Roadmap" in 2022 and are promoting a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for manufacturing environmentally friendly grinding wheels

In line with our greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction activities, we conduct “Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)” to ascertain how much impact our products have on the environment. We evaluate how our products should be treated and recycled at each step of the process, including raw material origin, production process, distribution, shipping process, product use, and disposal after use. This allows us to analyze production methods for environmentally friendly products with the lowest carbon footprint.

<Rationale for LCA evaluation>
Data recorded in the MiLCA program and the entire process (raw materials, production, use, and disposal) in the environmental impact assessment
Input data (raw materials, energy, transportation, and customer usage data)
Output Data (defective products and repair methods)

▲ Product Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

In 2022, MGT has already implemented the following projects:
・Converting air conditioners to inverter type to reduce energy consumption by up to 20%
・Replace 1,200 fluorescent lamps with LEDs to reduce energy consumption by 70%
・Switching compressors in the factory to an inverter system, reducing energy consumption by up to 30%
・Plans are underway to install a solar power system "solar roof" on the factory roof. This is expected to reduce electricity consumption by approximately 1,000,000 kW per year and up to 689 TCO2 per year.

Committed to the development of environmentally friendly grinding wheels All Group employees work together to achieve carbon neutrality

In addition to the above projects, we encourage all employees to conserve resources, use energy efficiently, and collect waste on a daily basis. We provide support for the formulation of project policies and other measures so that the entire group can work together to achieve our goal.

▲ Waste garbage boxes are placed within the company for sorting trash. Milk carton trash is donated for Braille production; other trash is recycled or disposed of properly.

We will continue our activities to raise awareness of MGT products as environmentally friendly green products and products with a carbon footprint. We are available to introduce our carbon neutral project and share materials that are useful for reducing greenhouse gases at any time upon request.

In order to improve global warming and keep the global environment in a balanced state, it is necessary for all people and companies to recognize the importance of this issue and work proactively to solve it. We feel that energy conservation projects will further develop and become an everyday part of life in Thailand in the future.
