As shown in the video, daily work efficiency completely differs with and without chip conveyors. Mentioned below are some of the issues that need to be addressed in a production site with no chip conveyors installed.
① Labor and cost of discharging metal chips by hand Without chip conveyors, discharging the metal chips from inside the machine tools all must be done by workers using shovels and forks.
② Oil contamination of the factory floor Chips of various sizes are impregnated with oil, which is used as a coolant. The oil from the chips scattered on the factory floor makes the floor sticky and slippery.
③ Danger of injuries Since metal chips can be very sharp, without chip conveyors, workers are at the risk of cutting themselves even when wearing gloves. Also, with the oil-based coolant being scattered on to the floor, cases of workers slipping, falling, and injuring themselves are often reported.
④ Machine troubles caused by metal chips Metal chips should be shoveled out of the machine tools regularly, about once an hour. Failure to do so can cause chips to accumulate and get caught in the motor during the cutting process causing many problems. Also, some types of machine tools require the machine to be stopped each time the metal chips need to be discharged.
