MURATA (THAILAND) CO., LTD.
Today’s manufacturing industry demands more than just higher production speeds. Manufacturers are also looking for ways to reduce processing steps and workpiece transfers, make more efficient use of factory floor space, and accommodate automated production systems.
To meet these needs, Murata Machinery, one of Japan’s leading manufacturers of metalworking machinery, has launched the MF2048HL Fiber Laser Punch Press, which integrates fiber laser cutting and punching in a single machine.
This article introduces the key features and specifications of the MF2048HL, a combination machine designed to handle multiple processing operations in one unit.
The MF2048HL is a combination machine developed based on the M2048TS. Drawing on Murata Machinery’s extensive technological expertise, it combines fiber laser cutting technology with the functions of the MOTORUM servo motor-driven turret punch press, which has been continuously developed for more than 30 years.

Key Features of the MF2048HL
✓ Achieves approximately six times the laser cutting speed of a CO₂ laser under specific conditions (1 mm-thick SUS304 processed with nitrogen).
✓ Features a wide selection of turret stations and supports the processing of thick sheet metal.
✓ Its compact design reduces the required installation space while offering an option selection comparable to that of higher-end models.
✓ Supports a wide range of sheet metal processing operations, including punching, laser cutting, forming, burring, and tapping.
✓ Allows flexible combinations of material handling equipment to suit production lines and processing requirements.
The MF2048HL provides an all-in-one sheet metal processing solution capable of handling a variety of operations on a single machine. In this way, the MF2048HL integrates multiple processing operations into one unit, enabling comprehensive sheet metal processing with a single machine.
In addition, the MF2048HL is equipped with a 3.0 kW fiber laser for sheet metal cutting and a maximum punching force of 200 kN. By combining laser cutting and punching in a single machine, it helps streamline sheet metal processing operations.
The machine can process materials up to 6.35 mm thick and workpieces measuring up to 1,250 × 2,500 mm without repositioning. This reduces the number of processing steps and supports continuous processing of large workpieces.
Flexible Automated Material Handling
One of the key features of the MF2048HL is its flexible material handling system, which can be configured to suit different production lines and processing requirements.
The material handling system helps improve productivity and supports extended periods of automated operation through the use of a stocker. This can reduce the labor and time required for workpiece removal, transfer, and loading into the machine.

The system also features an FG Sheet Stopper, which is positioned between the suction pads used to remove finished parts from the machine.
When processing thin sheet metal, the narrow kerf produced by fiber laser cutting can cause the remaining sheet material to catch on a part during pickup. This may cause the base material to lift together with the finished part, potentially stopping the machine.
The FG Sheet Stopper presses down on the base material at both ends of the part, preventing the remaining sheet from being lifted along with the finished part. This helps maintain stable automated operation.

A Fiber Laser Punch Press for Next-Generation Factories
Compact Design and Energy Efficiency
Murata Machinery introduced its laser punch press to the market in 1980 and has continued developing laser processing technology for more than 40 years.
Building on this extensive experience, the MF2048HL is designed not only to improve processing performance but also to address practical considerations in factory environments, including ease of use, installation requirements, and energy efficiency.

Compared with previous laser punch press models, the MF2048HL offers improved energy efficiency and a more compact design. These features help manufacturers make more effective use of limited factory floor space.
Its energy-efficient performance and space-saving design address two important priorities in modern manufacturing: reducing energy costs and optimizing production line layouts. These advantages are particularly valuable for factories seeking to improve production efficiency without having to allocate substantial additional space for new equipment.
Murata Machinery will continue to pursue new technologies and possibilities in metalworking machinery, providing solutions that meet the evolving needs of today’s rapidly changing manufacturing industry.
