“Now I get it!” “Get what?”
You might be wondering.
I’m talking about something I learned from President Shoji Takada (hereafter affectionately referred to as “George”) of the Japanese subsidiary of HAIMER, a German tool and jig company known for its precision.
Age 71. Fifty years of experience in the machine tool industry
He is open, friendly and on top of that, speaks to the Samurai Asia editorial staff in fluent English.
For 4 days from 21th November, the multinational members of the HAIMER were gathered in their booth at METALEX 2019, the largest manufacturing industry exhibition in Southeast Asia, which was held in BITEC Bang Na, Bangkok. Surrounded by such an individualistic staff, George spoke knowledgeably about machine tools.
The evolution of the world’s leading multi-axis machines coincides with the pursuit to shorten the lead time from materials to productization. Then what is the heart of the latest 5-axis machining centers at OKUMA, MAZAK, DMG MORI? CNC with advanced programming? Or its high rigidity, high precision, and deep cutting? None of these are wrong. But surely no one would deny that what is required in common and is indispensable for all machine tools is “spindle balance.”
