1. Clearly imaging defects such as scratches and irregularities
By imaging from the oblique, the shadow of the defect is made by the positive reflection light and it produces a high contrast. This makes it easy to confirm defect and the irregularity that were difficult to see in the image directly above.

Complex shapes that are hard to see from directly above are also obvious from an oblique angle.
