Introducing "Solutions for collecting sludge in coolant tanks" completed as a collaboration project between Shigiya (Thailand) , the Thai subsidiary of Shigiya Machinery Works - having a long-standing relationship with Sanritsu Kosan in Japan as well as in Thailand, and Hakusan (Thailand) , using the CNC angular cylindrical grinder “GAET-30” of SHIGIYA and the bottom sludge collection system “BSS” of HAKUSAN.

Founded in 1911 (Meiji 44), Shigiya Machinery Works (SHIGIYA / Headquarters: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture) is a global company that manufactures and sells various types of grinding machines such as cylindrical grinding machines, angular cylindrical grinding machines, and centerless cylindrical grinding machines, from Hiroshima to all over the world.

Shigiya (Thailand) was established in 2010 as the Thai subsidiary of Shigiya Machinery Works. Hakusan (Thailand), on the other hand, is a Thai subsidiary of Hakusan Kiko, which is headquartered in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture, founded in 1953 (Showa 28) manufacturing and selling chip conveyors for machine tools and coolant units for machine tools.

Comment from GM Sato of Sigiya (Thailand)

SHIGIYA's cylindrical grinding machines use a grindstone to machine workpieces. Fine sludge and abrasive grains that could not be removed by conventional magnet separators alone may remain in the coolant tank, especially in the four corners; we have received requests from customers for countermeasures.

Hakusan (Thailand) has developed a system called BSS (Bottom Sludge Collection System / described later) using a method that is a different conception from other companies in that sludge is physically swept out utilzing conveyor technology, which is their specialty.

Since the BSS has a simple structure, maintenance is easy and the price is low. We believe that our cylindrical grinder equipped with BSS will appeal to the people in charge of companies with low environmental awareness in terms of price.

The GAET-30 equipped with BSS is available to see in our showroom, so please contact us if you are interested.

Comment from GM Hattori of Hakusan (Thailand)

Coolant fluid is an important item that is essential for machining accuracy and cooling, but many customers have problems with sludge collection, such as the difficulty of cleaning the coolant tank or the inability to remove sludge accumulated at the corners of the tank.

To address this issue, Hakusan (Thailand) has developed a bottom sludge collection system “BSS”, which uses a conveyor to forcibly scrape up sludge for suction and collection.

In BSS, the scraping plate moves only on the bottom surface, which saves space and does not interfere with the supply pump to the machine. Various filters such as cyclone filter, back filter, etc. and magnetic separator can be attached at the tip of the suction pump to ensure filtration of coolant liquid.

We flexibly design and manufacture products for cutting machines, grinding machines, and tank sizes according to the usage environment. For those customers who have issues with sludge collection, we invite you to visit the showroom of Shigiya (Thailand) to actually use the demonstration machine and experience its effectiveness.

▲ GM Sato says, "We have been unable to remove fine sludge (chips) and grindstone powder (abrasive grains) with conventional magnetic separators alone.”

The Sanritsu Kosan Group is promoting the proposal of systems aimed at environmental conservation. Protecting the environment around us means protecting our lives and protecting the earth. Nowadays, environmental conservation has become a requirement of the times that must be considered on a global scale. In proposing systems, we always try to configure products from various perspectives of environmental protection, and we are developing our business to contribute to environmental protection activities together with our customers.
